Is the 11" MacBook Air really worth it?

So Im saving for my first Mac. Do you think the 11" MacBook air is reall worth the $999. That is about the highest I'll be willing to spend and it must be a Mac. My other option would be a refurbished MacBook Pro. I know the specs of the MacBook air aren't that great (64GB Hard Drive, 2GB Memory, Dual Core). What do you think I should get?

MacBook pro is my vote. More expensive but way more functional.

I really want to pro but the price is the only concern. Maybe I'll look at getting w refurbished one. That would be about $1000

Not to be offensive or anything but if you're looking for a mac you should really stop being "cheap". Mainly because apple product aren't "cheap". Spend the extra $200 and get a MBP. If not just go get yourself a $1000 pc and hackintosh.

The reason why i am being "cheap" is because Im 15 and have no job. My goal is to get a mac. Not a hackintosh. I am going to save but its not easy to save $1200 when you only get $15 a week.

The state I live in has very strict laws about working at a certain age. Only limited places let you work at 15 and the pay is extremely low and you can only work 10 hours a week. I looked and none of those places that hire at 15 are currently hiring, I wish it was that simple. Trust me, I want a job bad. Ive been mowing lawns and washing cars to try to make money but its hard to earn $1200+ 8% tax from doing that.

What state do you live in that's like that? New York? Also, just order on amazon and don't pay tax.

Or you could get the student discount. Then it would be $1100.

I live in Texas. I used to have a job for working for "NBC Universal" but the show I worked on is off. Im just waiting until I'm 16 to get a job. Ill have a lot more possibilities and be able to work a lot more.

I think Ill do that. Its only $100 and a lot better than the 11" air. I didn't know the student discount was for high school as well as college. How do i prove to them im a student? Will highcschool ID work?

Well if you go into an apple store yes, student discount works no matter where you are a student (seriously though it even works for elementary students and i've seen them use it). If you order online at the apple store you just checkmark something that says if they find out that you're not a student they'll *EDIT* you over and over again.

In my experience, refurbished units are great. I would definitely pursue that.

My iPad is refurbished and it works great! I think I might consider a refurbished pro or just get an air.

And again when it comes to Air vs. MBP, it all depends on what you plan to get out of the Mac and how you plan to use it. If it's just for simple things and occasional YouTube videos, then the Air is fine. If you plan on gaming, programming, etc, then the MBP is best.

My main thing I want to do on it is programming for iOS/Android apps along with some HTML. Do you think the pro would be better fit for that?

The 13" MacBook Pro is cheaper and better then the 13" MacBook Air. If you need a laptop I would stick with the Pro. For everything else buy an iPad
