Comex, Creator of JailbreakMe gets an internship with Apple? Your thoughts?
You would think that Apple might frown upon those who jailbreak its mobile operating system. But according to one of those jailbreakers, his adventures in hacking have landed him a coveted Apple internship.
"So, the week after next I will be starting an internship with Apple," a developer who goes by name Comex tweeted yesterday.
Comex is one of the people behind JailBreakMe, an easy-to-use jailbreaking tool for iOS devices. "Experience iOS as it could be, fully customizable, themeable, and with every tweak you could possibly imagine," according to the app's Web site site.
In July, an iOS update fixed a vulnerability that could have let hackers remotely control iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches. JailBreakMe allowed users to jailbreak their devices using that PDF bug.
Earlier this year, Comex also managed to jailbreak the iPad 2 within days of its release. Apple unveiled the second-generation tablet on a Friday and by the end of the weekend, Comex had gotten Cydia, an app that allows users to find and download jailbroken apps and software for other iOS devices, to run on the iPad 2.
A tweet from @iphone_dev later revealed that Comex completed the hack remotely, or 2,500 miles away, to be exact. Comex also said he would have had it done a day earlier if he "didn't have to spend 1.5 days looking for a replacement exploit."
Given his history as an iOS hacker, Comex said he was surprised by the well wishes. "Thanks for the congratulations everyone; I was expecting a more negative response," he tweeted.
As noted by TechCrunch, which identified Comex as Nicholas Allegra, Apple also hired another jailbreak app developer in June, Peter Hajas.
Comex did not elaborate on what his internship will entail. On its Web site, Apple said its internships are usually 12-week summer stints or 3- to 6-month co-ops for school credit.

Agreed, he is obviously going to be employed in the iOS section of things but what do you think he will be doing?

I think before they release an iOS they will run it by him so he can check for errors to prevent further jailbreaks. Who knows.

It would make sense to put him in that sort of position...
